A Salt Lake City home built in honor of a devoted Habitat volunteer
A Generous Life
During Gene’s 37-year career with Delta Airlines, he was introduced to Habitat for Humanity. He got hooked volunteering on his first home build in 1998 and continued volunteering until his death in November 2015. Gene helped 74 families reach their dreams of homeownership. He gave his time, money, and expertise wholeheartedly on the job site and in serving on the Family Selection Committee. He brought his fun and energetic Hawaiian spirit to every construction site, making the Habitat experience enjoyable for everyone involved. He had a passion for working with the Partner Families — from the very first step of the application process, all the way through to the years and years after they moved into their homes. Gene took great pride in serving as a Habitat volunteer, and Habitat for Humanity Greater Salt Lake Area took great pride in having Gene as part of our family.
Gene's family, friends, and co-workers joined forces to raise over $45,000 to build a Habitat home in his honor. We are proud to carry on Gene's legacy.

- 166 children have a stable place to call “home” and a safe yard to play in.
